Cui Shiwan, a Partner at Zhong Lun W&D Law Firm in Beijing. She earned her Bachelor of Laws (2013) and Master of Laws (2016) from the China University of Political Science and Law (School of International Law). Additionally, Ms. Cui obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Tulane University in the United States (2015). She is qualified to practice law in both China and New York State in the United States. 

Prior to practicing at Zhong Lun W&D Law Firm, Ms. Cui practiced at JunHe LLP and Tian Tong Law Firm in Beijing. With ten years of practice experience, she specializes in complex cross-border civil and commercial dispute resolution and also provides ongoing legal services to various large corporations. She has managed cases exceeding RMB 10 billion in aggregate value. Ms. Cui specializes in corporate litigation; securities misrepresentation and financial product disputes; as well as cross-border marriage and inheritance cases. She has represented numerous high-value litigation and arbitration cases heard by provincial High Courts and arbitration institutions. Cui Shiwan demonstrates exceptional proficiency in legal analytics, strategic planning, and courtroom advocacy, consistently pinpointing pivotal legal issues to advance clients' critical business interests.

 Ms. Cui possesses a profound understanding of the U.S. legal system. She is particularly well-versed in legal issues related to the operations of Chinese e-commerce merchants in the United States. This includes handling matters such as Temporary Restraining Orders issued by U.S. courts, account freezes, and product removals due to alleged trademark infringement. Her expertise extends to negotiations with U.S. courts and e-commerce platforms, covering actions such as applying for account reinstatement, responding to lawsuits, and engaging in settlement negotiations with plaintiffs. Additionally, she addresses various legal issues that arise during the registration, operation, and exit processes of Chinese companies on U.S. e-commerce platforms, including matters related to warehousing, tariffs, and income taxes.

Category I: Corporate, Financial, and Securities Litigation 


  • Represented the founding shareholder of a WFOE under a VIE structure, in a series of disputes over corporate control 
  • Represented in a series of disputes over corporate control between the founding shareholders and other shareholders of a Shenzhen-based company.
  • Represented the original shareholder of a Beijing medical technology company in a repurchase and exit lawsuit against the controlling shareholder.
  • Represented a prominent trust company in a trust contract dispute against its investors, securing a favorable judgment in the first-instance trial and successfully mitigating potential follow-up lawsuits
  • Represented investors in a securities misrepresentation dispute lawsuit against a listed company. This case was designated as a model case by the Hangzhou Intermediate People's Court.


Category II: International Trade


  • Provided legal opinion for a large state-owned enterprise regarding potential disputes arising from a construction project contract with the Ethiopian Road Authority.
  • Represented a large state-owned enterprise from Shanxi in an international goods arbitration against a German company. 


Category III: Entertainment Law


  • Represented Mr. Andy Lau and achieved a complete reversal of the original judgment at the second instance in a case against a Guizhou liquor company for infringement of Mr. Lau's portrait and name rights. 
  • Represented Mr. Andy Lau, as well as the producer and screenwriter of the film "The White Storm 2: Drug Lords," in a copyright infringement lawsuit, securing a comprehensive victory at the first instance.


Category IV: Marriage & Inheritance


  •  Represented a Malaysian widow in comprehensively handling the succession of estate located within China.
  • Systematically designed a divorce settlement plan involving asset division and child custody arrangements for a senior executive of a large enterprise, ultimately maximizing the client's interests.
  • Provided divorce-related legal services to the spouse of an actual controller of a listed company, involving the enforcement of a prenuptial agreement and the division of marital property.
  • Assisted a celebrity agent with will and legacy notarization, and systematically designed a family wealth succession plan.
